Many of us are familiar with heat pumps. They have been heating and cooling homes in Delaware for years. But over the past few years this technology has come to the world of water heaters.

Those of us with electric water heaters know how expensive they can be to operate. Bradford White high-efficiency hybrid electric heat pump tank water heaters provide an energy efficient and innovative water heating solution for your home.

How does it work? Basically, these units combine the efficiency of a heat pump with the simplicity of an electric water heater. They can provide the water most people need for much less money than a standard electric hot water heater.

A small heat pump at the top of the water heater pulls air from the surrounding space through an evaporator and uses this to heat up refrigerant. This hot refrigerant is used to help to heat the water in the tank. So, rather than using only the electricity in your home to heat the water, the hybrid heat pump water heaters utilize heat within your home to heat the water in your tank.

Will it save you money?

Absolutely. You are probably familiar with the yellow Energystar stickers that come on the side of new appliances.

Standard electric water heater costs $419 a year to run.

Bradford White Heat Pump Water heater costs $115 per year

– that’s a savings of $304 every year!

Are there any Rebates available?

Absolutely. There are two. You will want to talk with your tax professional about the $300 Federal Income Tax credit that is available for people who install one of these water heaters.

Plus under the Energize Delaware Program, you may qualify for a rebate of $750. There is a requirement for a Home Energy audit that we can help with. We have helped hundreds of homeowners receive nearly in $1,000,000 in rebates through Energize Delaware it so we are very familiar with it.

How much does it cost to install a hybrid electric heat pump water heater?

Choosing a hybrid heat pump water heater for your home will help save money throughout the water heater’s life and follows the same installation process as a standard electric water heater. The initial purchase cost of a hybrid electric heat pump tank water heater is higher but by using the credits and rebates available to you, it makes the unit much more affordable.

Is it difficult to install?

Normally we can install your new Hybrid water heater in just a few hours, if we are replacing an existing electric hot water heater. No new electricity is required.

Do they last?

These water heaters come with a 10 year warranty which covers all of the parts on the unit – both the heat pump and the tank.

What size water heater do I need for my home?

Bradford White offers three different sizes of hybrid electric heat pump tank water heaters to meet your home’s needs—50, 66 and 80 gallons. Normally if you have a 50 gallon electric water heater now – a 50 gallon heat pump model will be adequate. If you have an 80 gallon electric water heater, you would probably want to select the 80 gallon model.

How do I know if a hybrid electric heat pump tank water heater is right for my home?

Due to the hybrid electric heat pump technology transferring heat from the air in your home into the water heater, a hybrid heat pump water heater operates best when installed in a large space like a basement or garage.
