High-efficiency ductless heating and cooling systems are becoming increasingly popular here in New Castle and with good reason. Also called ductless split systems or mini splits, these compact heating and cooling units are energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and completely customizable.
They offer flexibility and efficiency beyond what traditional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems do. At Burns & McBride, we are installing and maintaining more of these systems than ever.
With a ductless solution, you can eliminate energy use in the rooms you’re not using, or design a climate in your home based on the factors that make you and your home unique. With today’s work-from-home environment, a ductless system provides a permanent solution to making untreated home office workspaces like basements, breezeways, or other unused space comfortable.
Why Are They Different?
The most obvious difference with ductless heat pumps is they do not require ductwork—they are entirely ductless. This is the factor giving them an edge over ducted heating and cooling systems. With only a few components to the system, you can understand why they are so flexible.
Our Burns & McBride professionals can install these small systems almost anywhere in your home requiring heating and/or cooling, typically on a ceiling or wall. Despite their condensed size, these ductless systems are very powerful.
On top of this, they only have three main components. There is the outdoor unit—the condenser or compressor. There is the indoor unit—the air-handling unit. Then there is a small conduit connecting the two units—housing the condensate drain, suction tubing, refrigerant tubing, and power cable.
A variation we often make is installing several indoor units (up to eight) that connect to the one outdoor unit, creating a zone system setup.
When Would You Want One?
If you have a room or area in your home, like a garage, finished basement, addition, home office, master bedroom, enclosed patio, or even a room with uneven temperatures where you want heating and/or cooling, a ductless would be an excellent option. You can also set up several systems throughout your home and treat them like zones, all controlled via remote control.
Ductless System Pricing
The price of a ductless system is determined by four primary factors: the size of the unit, the type of unit, the number of areas (zones) being conditioned, and the degree of installation difficulty. One of our ductless system professionals will help to design the system best suited for your specific needs.
We offer financing if this is a consideration for you. We are happy to go over your options with you. Call to discuss this with one of our professionals.
In addition to the flexibility and ductless advantages, these systems offer several benefits to you. The ductless heat pump affords a great cost savings overall with its energy efficiency, lack of ductwork (no energy leaks), and controlled heating and cooling, only heating and cooling exactly when and where you want it.
Another benefit to this system is improved indoor air quality (IAQ). Again without ductwork, there’s no collection of particles, dust, and bacteria you can find in the ducts circulating throughout your home.
These ductless systems are also quick and easy to install since there is no ductwork involved in the installation. Once installed, they are quiet in operation, offering even temperature control in their rooms, all while boasting their environmental advantage of using green refrigerant.

Contact us about your new ductless system to see if it qualifies for program rebates. We have already helped Burns & McBride customers receive a total of over $1,000,000 from this fund and cut their average energy bill by 35 percent.
